Advisory only: read this before relying on anything ski-resort, off-piste or backcountry related on PowderZone.

General

PowderZone is an independent editorial site. Guides, Q&A content, trail and piste maps, and any other information about ski resorts, ski areas, in-bounds runs, off-piste terrain, or backcountry routes are provided for general informational and editorial purposes only. They are not official, may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate, and are not a substitute for official guidance.

Map and location accuracy

The map on PowderZone is a planning tool. It is designed to help you judge how busy a village or ski area is, and whether it has the places to stay, eat, drink and shop, and the other services, that you need. It is not a wayfinding or navigation tool, and it does not guarantee anything about any place on it.

Please do not use the map to confirm the exact position of a building, to find your way on the ground, or to rely on a place being open, bookable or ski-in ski-out. We cannot confirm from the map that a hotel or lodge is slopeside, so check with the business directly, and check its distance from the lifts.

Places come from open map data, business websites, local tourism sites and Japanese government address data. Lift and run lines come from open map data. In Japan these sources are often incomplete or out of date, and a pin can be a street or more out from the real location. Where a place is marked as approximate, its position is a best estimate. You can read more in How our map data is made.

Treat every pin as a starting point. Please check with the business directly, and use a navigation app once you are in Japan. If you spot a mistake, please use the Report a mistake link in the footer.

Ski resort and in-bounds use

Skiing and snowboarding, even on marked, in-bounds runs, carries inherent risk of injury or death. Lift status, piste grading, opening dates, terrain conditions, and resort rules change without notice. Always check current conditions, trail status, and rules directly with the resort operator before and during your visit, and follow all on-mountain signage, closures, and staff instructions.

Off-piste and backcountry

Any advice, directions, or route descriptions relating to off-piste or backcountry areas are advisory only, based on editorial research, and may be incomplete or out of date. Off-piste and backcountry travel carries additional risks, including avalanche, that do not apply to patrolled in-bounds terrain. Before heading off-piste or into the backcountry, check current conditions and access rules with the resort operator's own website, the relevant national and local (prefecture) authorities, and comply with Japanese law. Consider hiring a licensed local guide and carrying appropriate avalanche safety equipment and training.
